BBZR23, disegno murale temporaneo di David Tremlett

Brendan Becht, Irene Sofia Comi

In a perfect balance between traditional and alternative exhibition spaces to the art system, Tremlett's wall drawings, of which BBZR23 is also part, have inhabited, temporarily and otherwise, various locations around the world. Geometric shapes, lettering, straight lines, oblique, curved, broken, spots of color. This is what makes up this infinite eccentric and ironic series, inaugurated by the artist starting from the Seventies and which has become his main expressive technique since the Eighties. In the creation process, in addition to using paint, Tremlett spreads pastel dust on the wall, working the pigments with his bare hands. Color is therefore conceived as matter, in an echo that looks both to the tradition of fresco and wall painting and to sculptural practice, the artist's training language. For these reasons, wall drawings are placed in a hybrid territory, between abstract representation and presentation of reality. In the case of Zazà Ramen, the intervention is double, regular and asymmetric at the same time.
